Influence Of Education Boards On School Education

School education is one main factor that leads a student to move forward in life. Right school education influences both life and career choices. Education is a strong foundation that steers the student's aspirations and dreams. Some may choose the trending career, and some choose to build a job of their choice. The child’s growth as an expert professional is based on the kind of mentoring and school education they receive. India has several top and reputed schools spread across the country. Each school will be affiliated to one of the education boards available in India. The major education boards followed in India are ICSE, CBSE, IB and state boards. ICSE and CBSE are the two popular education boards recognised across India. Let us take a look at both the boards, the standards and curriculum in detail.

ICSE And CBSE Education Boards

Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE, an education board under the Government of India, is the most preferred option. All Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and other central government schools are affiliated to the CBSE education board. Private schools are also granted affiliation to follow the CBSE program. CBSE is more desirable as the curriculum can be applied across the nation. The board conducts two significant exams for classes 10 and 12. AISSE or All India Secondary School Examination for class 10 and AISSCE or All India Senior School Certificate Examinations for class 12.

ICSE education board is also a popular choice in India. The ICSE board was formed as an Indian alternative to the then existing British board, the Cambridge School Certificate Examination. It is a privately owned education board that conducts two examinations for class 10 and 12. CISCE or Council for the Indian School Certificate Exam for class 10 and Indian School Certificate or ISC for class 12.

The Differences In Syllabus Between The Two Boards

CBSE has a holistic curriculum with six subjects for class 20 and offers different streams like science, humanities and Commerce for class 11 and 12. The CBSE curriculum is more focused on math and science; hence it is most preferred by parents who want their child to crack the medical and engineering board exams. It is a more theory-based curriculum that follows an alphabet grading system. Students can opt for Hindi or English as the medium of instruction. The subjects are dealt with in-depth.

The ICSE curriculum is more application based. The board gives equal weightage to all subjects, including language, arts and sports. The council offers a variety of subjects that include agricultural science, home science, interior design, among others. It is the best curriculum that provides an excellent English language platform. Students from ICSE board quickly clear English language tests like the TOEFL and IELTS. ICSE education board is the most preferred choice for those who want to pursue higher education abroad. The board is not available in Hindi medium.
